This JSC meeting marks the midway point in the implementation of the UNSDCF, highlighting the critical need for sustained collaboration to advance inclusive and sustainable growth across the country.

At the meeting, UN Mongolia presented the key outcomes of its activities over the past year, focused on promoting human development and well-being, supporting sustainable and green economic growth, protecting the environment, enhancing climate and disaster resilience, and strengthening governance, human rights, and the rule of law. The discussion also explored the challenges and obstacles faced in these efforts.

This Joint Steering Committee meeting, held twice a year, is co-chaired by the State Secretaries of Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economy and Development, along with the UN Resident Coordinator. The meeting brought together representatives from ministries and agencies involved in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-2027).

Through the Cooperation Framework, the 24 UN system entities have been working in close collaboration with government agencies, civil society, and the private sector to address major development challenges and contribute to tangible progress in achieving Mongolia’s long-term sustainable development vision, "Vision 2050."

For example, in 2024 alone, our efforts contributed to improved healthcare, education, and social protection for over 500,000 vulnerable individuals, a 3.9% reduction in maternal mortality, and expanded access to safe drinking water for 200,000 people.

We also supported a 10% rise in private-sector investment, a threefold increase in camel milk exports, and the restoration of 49,000 hectares of degraded rangelands.

Together, we provided emergency support to over 25,000 herders, safeguarded livelihoods, and laid the groundwork for more resilient, sustainable communities.

The Government of Mongolia emphasizes the importance of ensuring an inclusive energy reform as part of its ongoing efforts. In support of equitable and fair access to clean energy and the reduction of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar, a pilot project has been implemented to introduce solar energy-based heating systems for vulnerable households in ger districts.

Additionally, the UN System’s steadfast commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment has contributed to significant progress, particularly in decision-making roles. Notably, women’s representation in Parliament has risen to 25.4%, reflecting a meaningful step toward inclusive governance.

The Steering Committee meeting on the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework also discussed and approved the priority areas and action plan for 2025.
